Google Review Response Examples: 20 Replies to Copy
A good reply to a Google review is short, uses the customer's name, mentions something specific from their review, and sounds like a person wrote it. This page gives you 20 Google review response examples to copy, sorted by star rating. Change the words in [brackets] before you post, so no two replies look the same.
Google tells the customer when you reply, and everyone who reads your profile can see the reply. Your business must be verified before you can reply. Google also checks replies against its content rules, so it may ask you to edit one before it goes live.
The 4 parts of a good review reply
| Part | What to write | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Name | Their first name, as shown on the review | Thanks, Sam. |
| 2. Detail | One thing they mentioned | Glad the new boiler is keeping you warm. |
| 3. Service words | What you did, in plain words, if it fits | We enjoyed fitting it for you. |
| 4. Close | A short, friendly last line | Call us any time you need us. |
Two to three sentences is enough. Long replies are not better. Our guide on whether replying to reviews helps SEO explains what replies can and cannot do for your ranking.

Replies to reviews with stars but no text

Mistakes to avoid when you reply
- The same reply every time. Customers read your replies. Ten copies of "Thanks for your review!" look like you did not read them.
- Filling replies with keywords. "Thanks for choosing the best plumber in Leeds" reads like an advert. Write what you would say to their face.
- Sharing private details. Google asks you not to share a reviewer's private information. Do not confirm what they bought, what treatment they had, or where they live.
- Attacking the reviewer. Even if the review is unfair, future customers are reading your reply. If a review breaks Google's rules, ask Google to remove it instead.
- Replying weeks later. Set a time each week to clear new reviews, or reply on the day if you can.
How to reply to reviews without doing it by hand
Replying takes a few minutes per review, and it is the first job to slip when you are busy. RankLocal Pro writes a reply for each new review in your voice and posts 4-star and 5-star replies for you. It leaves lower ratings for you to answer, because those need a human. You can try the first month for $1, then it is $19 a month, and you can cancel any time.
Questions people actually ask
Should I reply to every Google review?
Yes, if you can. Reply to good and bad reviews. It shows future customers that a real person runs the business and reads what people say.
Can customers change a review after I reply?
Yes. A customer can edit their review after reading your reply. This is why a calm reply to an unhappy customer can be worth the effort.
Why is my reply not showing on Google?
Replies can take time to appear. Google also checks them against its content rules, and it may ask you to edit a reply that breaks them.
Can I use AI to reply to reviews?
Yes, as long as the reply is true and specific. Check that it mentions what the customer actually said, and never let AI promise something you cannot do.
