What each checker actually checks
Local SEO has two sides: your website, and your Google Business Profile. The website checker covers the first. The others cover Google.
The website check: one page, 12 local basics
The website SEO checker reads the page you enter the way Google first fetches it. It checks that nothing blocks Google, the connection is secure, the title and description are present and the right length, there is one main headline, the page works on phones, and it carries LocalBusiness schema, a tap-to-call number, a map link and image descriptions. It also times how fast your server answers.
The profile score: your Google listing, out of 100
The Google Business Profile grader reads your live listing: category, description, hours, photos, website link, review count, star rating, how recent your reviews are, and the attributes Google shows for your category. You get the score, what failed, and what to change first.
The rank check: where you sit, street by street
Searching for yourself tells you little, because Google knows where you are standing. The Google Maps rank checker runs your keyword from 25 points across your area and draws the result as a heatmap. There is more in our guide to tracking your Maps rank.
What these do not check
They do not crawl your whole site, count backlinks or test every page. The website check covers the page you enter. For most local businesses the home page and the Google listing are where customers decide first.
Frequently asked questions
These tools are free because most owners do not know where they stand on Google, and a real number is the first step to fixing it.
Are these tools really free?
Yes. All seven run with no signup and no credit card. They are the same checks RankLocal runs for its own customers.
Can I check my website’s SEO for free?
Yes. The website checker at the top of this page reads one page of your site and runs 12 local SEO checks: whether Google may show it, HTTPS, title, meta description, headline, phone layout, business schema, tap-to-call, a map link, image descriptions, the canonical tag and how fast the server answers.
Do I need to connect my Google account?
No. The grader and the rank checker read your public Google Business Profile, the same information anyone searching for you already sees.
How is this different from a paid audit?
It is the live scoring RankLocal uses for its own customers, not a sales report. It covers one page of your website and your Google listing, not backlinks or a full site crawl.
