Local citations

The 94 local citation sites that actually matter

The business listing sites and directories worth your afternoon, filtered by your country and your trade, because a plumber in Manchester and a surf school in Morocco do not need the same list. Every entry says what the directory is genuinely for. 66 of the 94 are free to list on.

Every URL on this page was fetched and checked in September 2026. Two entries were removed for failing: one no longer resolves, and one turned out to be an ads product rather than a listing you can claim.

Read this before you start. The order matters far more than the length. The first ten listings here do most of the work, and the last fifty do almost none. And whichever you pick, enter the name, address and phone character for character identical every time. Inconsistency is the actual problem in almost every profile we look at, and it is invisible unless something puts the versions side by side.

The part a list cannot do for you

A list tells you where to go. It cannot tell you what to type, and that is the half that decides whether any of this works. RankLocal pulls the exact name, address, phone and categories off your live Google profile and puts them on screen as one block to copy, then tracks which listings you have done.

Questions people actually ask

What is a local citation?+

Any place online that mentions your business name, address and phone number. A directory listing, a chamber of commerce page, a booking platform profile. Search engines use the consistency of those mentions as a signal that you are a real business at a real address.

How many citations does a business actually need?+

Far fewer than most lists imply. The first ten matter enormously and the next hundred barely register. Getting Google, Apple, Bing, Facebook and the two or three directories that dominate your trade exactly right beats being on two hundred sites with three different phone numbers.

Do citations still work in 2026?+

They are no longer a growth lever on their own. They are a hygiene factor: inconsistent ones actively hold you back, and correct ones remove a reason for Google to doubt you. Fix them once, keep them accurate, then spend your time on reviews and activity.

Why does this list not show Domain Authority?+

Domain Authority is a Moz metric that we do not license and cannot calculate. Putting a number in that column would mean inventing it, and it is the column people trust most. Instead every entry explains what the directory is genuinely for, so you can judge whether it is worth your afternoon.

What matters more than which sites you pick?+

Entering identical details every time. A business listed as "Joe’s Plumbing Ltd" in one place and "Joes Plumbing" in another looks like two businesses. Nobody notices, because nobody ever sees the two versions side by side.
