Privacy policy: Local Rank Checker extension
Last updated 7 September 2026
The short version
The extension collects nothing, stores nothing, and sends nothing anywhere. It has no server of its own. Everything it shows is worked out in your browser from the address of the tab you are on, and only after you click its icon.
What it reads
One thing: the URL of the tab that is active when you click the extension icon. It uses the activeTab permission, which Chrome grants only on that click and revokes afterwards. The extension asks for no host permissions, so it has no standing access to Google or to any other site.
What it does with it
If the URL is a Google Maps listing, it pulls out the business name, the map centre coordinates and the CID, all of which are already visible in your address bar. Those are displayed in the popup. That is the entire feature.
What it never does
- No content scripts. It does not read, change or inject anything into any web page.
- No network requests of its own. It has no backend and no analytics.
- No storage. Nothing is written to disk, to cookies, or to sync.
- No accounts, no sign-in, no identifiers, no advertising.
- Nothing is sold or shared, because nothing is collected in the first place.
When you click a button
The three buttons open a normal new tab on getranklocal.com with the business name in the query string, exactly as if you had typed it into our free tool yourself. From that point our ordinary site privacy policy applies, the same as for any visitor. If you never click a button, nothing leaves your browser at all.
Changes and contact
If the extension ever starts handling data, this page will say so and the version here will change before that release ships. Questions: support@getranklocal.com.
